Description

Primary Purpose:

Provide leadership and coordination to provide an aligned and articulated instructional program in the subject area assigned. 

 

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Master’s degree from accredited university

AND

Valid Texas teaching certificate

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of curriculum design and implementation

Ability to evaluate instruction programs and teaching effectiveness

Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners

Ability to interpret data

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

 

Experience:

Five years teaching experience

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional and Program Management

  1. Coordinate the review, development, and revision of all subject area programs and related curriculum documents and materials, including curriculum guides, course outlines, and teaching plans.
  2. Work cooperatively with directors and campus principals in developing and supervising the instructional programs in assigned subject areas.
  3. Provides leadership to assure correlation between district curriculum and the TEKS.
  4. Recommends the ordering and use of departmental instructional aids and materials for assigned subject areas.
  5. Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to examine curriculum and instruction program effectiveness for the assigned subject areas.
  6. Serves as a resource person in curriculum, instruction, and assessment across subject areas.
  7. Maintain a staff library of publications, supplementary materials, and supplies relevant to the assigned subject area.
  8. Assist in the preparation of the budget and administration of the budget for supplies, equipment, and facilities in area of assignment.
  9. Reports monthly to the Assistant Superintendent and provides a written summary regarding the status of curriculum and instruction within the district.

Staff Development     

  1. Plan and provide staff development for teachers, administrators, and staff in assigned subject area.
  2. Promotes innovation and engagement within the subject areas.
  3. Disseminate information regarding current research and significant developments on the state and national levels in area assigned.
  4. Observe classroom instruction and provide feedback and assistance to classroom teachers to facilitate improvement and innovation.
  5. Demonstrate teaching strategies for teachers to implement in the classroom.
  6. Assist in the mentoring of beginning teachers in the areas of curriculum and instruction.

Other

  1. Assist in communicating information to parent and community members about school programs.
  2. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  3. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies.
  4. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
